Brockenhurst, New Forest, Hampshire
The village featured in the Domesday survey of 1086 & was the only village mentioned as having a church. The village has a well known ford running across the end of Brookley Road, it is also well served with local shops, tea rooms, pubs & restaurants. St. Nicholas Church, may date back to pagan times. A service is held in the churchyard each year on the Sunday nearest to Anzac Day to commemorate the New Zealand commonwealth soldiers who died in the 1914-18 war. There is a New Zealand war cemetery nearby. The churchyard also contains the grave of a famous local snake catcher; Brusher Mills, his headstone tells his story.
